News: Sumner County Health Department adds feminine hygiene pantries at clinics

July 26,2025

Hendersonville Standard

All women should have access to Feminine Hygiene products and in Sumner County, this is not the case. Unfortunately, many of the clients at the Health Department have mentioned a lack of access to these vital products.

The health educators and nursing staff at the Gallatin Health Department saw this need and wanted to help. As they looked for ways to combat this issue, a staff member came across a free hygiene pantry at the Gallatin Public Library, known as the Sumner Period Pantry. It was created by Chelsie Lykens, who is a resident of Sumner County and saw the same need. After connecting with Chelsie, it was clear that this was a simple solution to a huge issue.

Chelsie’s sincere passion for establishing feminine hygiene pantries all over Sumner County is unmatched. She wants to make a significant impact in the community by working with local organizations to make these products accessible to all residents.

Chelsie was able to help the Health Department employees fully stock two pantries in the Gallatin location and one in the Portland location. These pantries provide various feminine hygiene products – at no cost – and visitors can take as many products as they need. When the products are running low, Chelsie will stop by and refill.

If you or someone you know wants to donate products to be put in the pantries being established all throughout Sumner County, go to Amazon and search under the registry tab for Sumner Period Pantry.

This project would not be sustainable without the generous donations made by passionate individuals. If you are interested in establishing a feminine hygiene pantry at your establishment, reach out to Chelsie at
